Naveen Dhillon: Bhangra Meets Synth-Pop from Mohali

Naveen Dhillon blends bhangra tradition with synth-pop from his Mohali studio. Biography, credits and discography.

Naveen Dhillon runs a bedroom studio in Mohali built around a battery-powered synth, a borrowed interface and windows open to the night air. He blends bhangra tradition with synth-pop, and he records during actual power cuts.

Seven-eight verse, four-four chorus

“Electric Habit” shifts time signatures beneath the vocal. “The time change is hidden behind the vocal,” Dhillon says. “The listener feels the lift before they can name it.”

The WhatsApp dhol

The dhol loop on “Electric Habit” arrived on a voice note from Dhillon’s uncle—a wedding recording from Mohali, cracked but clear. Dhillon built the beat from what he was given and played until sunrise.

Power cut sessions

“Power Cut” was recorded during an actual blackout. The neighbor’s dog joined in, and Dhillon kept it in the mix. “The darkness is a drum,” he says.
